19 schools battled it out on March 2nd to become the DELTA games champions 2017!

The competition took place in 3 different age categories, U11, U13 and U15 with Vale Academy victorious at U13 & U15 and Green Lane the U11 primary champions.

DELTA Academies from across Yorkshire and beyond battled it out to earn the right to become the DELTA Games Champions

Over 200 young people from 19 schools converged on the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield for the DELTA games indoor athletics championships.

The event was organised by Active Fusion with great support from the Doncaster College University Students from the High Melton campus and additional support from Doncaster Elite Leaders and other young leaders.

After a full day of track and field events Vale Academy (North Lincs) won overall in the U13 & U15 age groups and the primary event was won by Green Lane Academy (Garforth).

Jonathan Allan, Active Fusion Assistant Director, said: “The venue is world class, Anthony Joshua was in the building and Katarina Johnson-Thompson was training whilst we competed and it was great to see the reaction of athletes from 11 to 15 years old, hopefully the next generation of athletes were inspired! On behalf of all the staff and leaders we would like to say congratulations to all the schools that took part and thank them for their impeccable behaviour and great sportsmanship throughout the day!”

Dan Brown (Wybers Wood Academy) “I would like to say that we¬†(Wybers Wood Academy) have again had a fantastic day out. This is the 3rd year in a row that we have attended your competition. We never arrive with the intention to win, but to inspire those pupils who don’t feel they have natural sporting ability. Over the last three years this has been successful. Including year 6 children next year is also fantastic, that means for us that those children who didn’t get a chance to experience the games and the facilities, can do so when in year 6”

Tom Wallis (Manor Croft Academy) “Thanks to you and the team for organising today’s event. All of our students loved competing in such a professional environment. They are already planning for next year and it’s really boosted their excitement for the approaching athletics season”
