Active Start

Active Start is a programme designed to support early childhood development for 3-7 year olds who live in deprived communities of South Yorkshire.

Our family centred approach delivers active hours of physical activity support and community activator training to support adults to sustain services beyond the project.

We know too many children grow up in areas of significant poverty where children’s lack of readiness for school is evident when compared to others from more affluent areas. Children are less independent and confident, have reduced speech and language abilities. They have higher incidents of challenging behaviour and lack basic fine and gross motor skills they need to thrive when starting school.

Improving Wellbeing

The Active Start programme improves the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of young children by simply learning the Fusion ABC – Agility, Balance and Coordination.

Active Start is a great way to engage the whole family in physical activities delivered in 6 – 8 week blocks. Fusion Coaches engage the parents, carers and their children through a range of sports and physical activities from running, dancing and gymnastics to ball skills (catching, throwing, kicking, dribbling) and yoga.

To sustain activities beyond sessions, our coaches mentor parents and carers in developing the skills and knowledge to keep children active at home.

Changing habits for life

Children experience first-hand activity that develop skills resulting in changes to attitudes, behaviour and confidence.

Children and their families work with us to develop positive habits, helping to reduce the likelihood of poor physical health and mental wellbeing as they grow up.

As a result of working with Active Fusion, children are more active, healthy and more over – they are happy!

We loved how interactive it is for both parents and children, our families are more active.
