Young apprentice hired by Doncaster school

Active Fusion apprentice Keegan Ashwell, upon completion of his apprenticeship, has been offered a permanent place at St Joseph & St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School as a member of staff. 

The 17-year-old has excelled at his placement school in 2019/20, putting in the hard work and developing his skills and expertise in the school environment. 

His desire and will to improve not only his own performance, but that of the children he works with in school, has been noticed by the staff at Active Fusion and his placement school St Joseph & St Teresa’s, none more so than the school’s Business Manager, Linda Bent. 

When asked about why the school have decided to take Keegan on, Linda gave an assured answer: “Keegan really has had a massive impact in our school during his apprenticeship year. 

“In addition to developing sport in school, he has also worked supporting vulnerable pupils and SEMH needs.  

“He has proved to be the very best way to invest our Sport Premium funding and improve engagement in sport. He is an absolute star!“

Always willing to help out and improve sessions, Keegan has proven himself to be the correct fit for the Doncaster Primary School, who have well and truly received a fantastic experience from the apprenticeship programme. 

Keegan has also impressed Active Fusion staff during his apprenticeship, which Apprentice Tutor, Sarah Belk, says is down to his “˜maturity’. 

She said: “Keegan has been a pleasure to tutor.  

“As a young 16-year-old straight from school, Keegan has shown maturity and an excellent work ethic throughout his 12-month PE and School Sport apprenticeship.  

“Keegan has demonstrated a natural ability to lead young people with outstanding skills in managing behaviour and developed curriculum lessons that are structured, show development and meet the needs of all the young people he teaches in his school. 

“Myself and Active Fusion would like to congratulate Keegan on his employment with St Joseph & St Teresa’s, a well-deserved appointment for a talented young man, and for proving an apprenticeship really can improve your employability”. 

The young apprentice will be a major asset to St Joseph & St Teresa’s faculty, as the team continue to support Keegan for the remainder of his apprenticeship.
