Muhammad’s Story: From Gamer to Game-Changer at Fusion Camp

Muhammad, aged 11, attended our Fusion Camps at Waverley School during February half-term, marking his first time joining us. He chose to attend because he wanted to have fun and meet new people in his community, as he often gets bored at home and enjoys staying active. Initially, he felt anxious about attending since none of his schoolmates were there, but he’s now incredibly glad he took the opportunity. He’s excited to reconnect with friends outside of school.

Exploring New Sports and Building Confidence

At home, Muhammad typically spends his days playing video games or doing household chores, so he’s excited that Active Fusion offers camps that keep him engaged and happy. Throughout his time at camp, he’s particularly enjoyed trying out a variety of activities, such as rugby, netball, dodgeball, and football, sports he doesn’t usually play at home or school. He’s also developed a special love for hockey and had the chance to learn how to play Benchball, a sport he’d never tried before.

Muhammad has thrived during his time at camp, gaining much more confidence in communication. He’s also embraced mini leadership roles, guiding younger participants in small-sided activities and games.

Positive Experience with Encouraging Coaches

Camps have given Muhammad a boost in confidence, allowing him to have fun while learning new skills that he can apply outside of camp. He fully embraced every activity, making sure to get the most out of his experience. Muhammad particularly likes the coaches, describing them as “really fun.” He appreciates how kind they are, making him feel safe, and how they communicate clearly when he needs help.

Leadership and Growth

Muhammad is eager to return to the Fusion Camps, especially since they were held at his school, a familiar environment that made him feel safe. He’s also excited to encourage his friends to join him next time.

During his time at camp, Muhammad has developed his leadership skills. From the start, it was clear that his communication was strong, and he enjoyed taking charge of his team. The coaches recognised this as a great opportunity for him to lead small activities for younger participants and serve as a captain during team games, ensuring that everyone stayed engaged and involved.

Exceeding Expectations

The aim of the camp was to focus on developing leadership skills, communication, building confidence, fostering social connections with new people, and enhancing teamwork. We’re thrilled that Muhammad not only met these objectives but exceeded them, taking on a leadership role and truly excelling throughout his time at camp.
