Seraphina’s Story: Showcasing The Power of Supportive Mentorship
Seraphina, a vibrant and energetic 7-year-old, has been a frequent attendee of the Carcroft Fusion Camp during her Summer holidays. Her journey with Fusion Camp began several years ago, and she has continuously returned, driven by her love for the diverse activities and the inspiring coaches. When not at camp, Seraphina enjoys playing football in her garden, showcasing her natural talent for sports and physical activities.
Fusion Camp aims to provide a wide range of activities for children aged 5-11. During Summer 2024, the camp at Carcroft Primary School featured a variety of engaging activities, including bouncy castles, arts & crafts, and for the first time, laser tag. These activities are designed to help children discover new sports and hobbies, potentially inspiring them to pursue these activities outside of a camp environment.
From an early age, Seraphina exhibited a natural talent for sports. However, when she first attended Fusion Camp, she was quite a shy and reserved child. Her initial visits to the camp were marked by her hesitation to engage fully with others, preferring to stay in the background and observe. Seraphina’s favourite part of Fusion Camp is the coaches, whom she describes as amazing mentors who teach her “awesome things.”
The highlight of her recent camp experience was participating in laser tag, a new addition to the camp’s activity roster. This unique sport not only thrilled her but also expanded her skill set, introducing her to a novel and exciting way to engage in physical activity.
Coach Luke, a long-time mentor at Active Fusion, had high praise for Seraphina. “Seraphina has been on a lot of Active Fusion camps in the past, each time she attends with a smile and passion to learn new sports or activities. Recently, she has been developing her leadership and helping the younger children out at activities,” he commented. Seraphina’s enthusiasm and willingness to assist others highlight her growth in both skills and character.
Reflecting on her experience, Seraphina shared, “Camp makes me feel amazing. I love coming here. Seeing the coaches is my favourite part, but I also like seeing old friends and making new ones. I love camp, I feel safe here.” Her words capture the essence of what Fusion Camp strives to offer: a fun, educational and safe environment where children can grow and thrive.
Michelle, Seraphina’s mother, discovered Fusion Camp through Active Fusion’s Facebook page and has been a strong advocate ever since. She noted that Seraphina always looks forward to attending Fusion Camp during school holidays, as it not only brings her joy but also keeps her ahead in sports at school. “I love that my child gets to experience a wide variety of sports at camp that she may not have access to outside of school, including rugby and cricket. Fusion Camp has helped her confidence and helped her thrive” Michelle added.
Seraphina’s journey at Carcroft Fusion Camp demonstrates the camp’s positive impact on young attendees, enhancing her athletic, leadership, and social skills through diverse activities and supportive coaching. Her story highlights Active Fusion’s mission to help every child to develop a love for being active by unlocking potential and creating positive habits for life. As Seraphina continues to grow and return to Fusion Camp, she exemplifies the lasting benefits and joyful experiences that the camp provides to its young participants.
