The benefits of Active Fusion teacher training

We are passionate about improving the teaching of Physical Education.

We work with teachers, predominantly in primary schools, to help them improve their confidence and competence in teaching physical activity to children. This is because we believe the better the experience of children in Physical Education, the more likely they are to continue positive habits throughout their life.

We run courses throughout the academic year, including facilitating the upcoming FREE Ready Set Ride teacher training, where teachers will learn how to teach children to ride their bikes safely and confidently.

It takes place on Thursday, September 26 at Sunnyfields Primary School from 9am to 2.45pm and includes a professional primary Physical Education network session. Click here to book.

Jenna Rumary, a teacher at Sprotbrough Orchard Infant School, took part in Active Fusion teacher training throughout the previous academic year, including a Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education.

Jenna said taking part in the training, which she first heard about at Active Fusion’s 2018 Physical Education Conference, had a hugely positive impact on her teaching of Physical Education.

She said: “After hearing about the training at the 2018 Active Fusion Conferece, my headteacher and I felt it was an excellent opportunity to support me in my role as P.E. Coordinator. I wanted to take part in training to improve my subject knowledge because during my teacher training I had very little tutoring in this area. In my role I wanted to be able to speak confidently about Physical Education.

“I feel I have grown in confidence at teaching all areas of Physical Education as my subject knowledge has improved. I am now more reflective on the lessons I teach, I am more confident differentiating to ensure all children learn to the best of their ability and I have a bank of ideas to refer to when teaching different areas of Physical Education. I feel the children have benefited because during the training we have looked closely at child development and I have been able to assess them better.

“I have thoroughly enjoying taking part in Active Fusion training because it has given me the opportunity to work with other P.E. teachers and really focus on an area that I love teaching. I feel the discussions I had enabled us to bounce ideas off one another, share excellent practice and and be part of a support network. I have developed positive working relationships with colleagues in other schools that I wouldn’t have necessarily met prior to the training.”

Jenna added that she would highly recommend Active Fusion training and would encourage teachers looking to expand their knowledge of Physical Education and the impact it has on pupil development to take part. She also said that the guidance and support she received was impeccable.

“Sophie was an excellent course tutor who made the whole thing enjoyable. I really value the tutors she got in to support us because she had obviously considered their expertise. Being able to look closely at Ofsted and reflect on my own teaching of Physical Education has been highly beneficial, as you rarely get chance to do this.

“I would highly recommend teachers people with an interest in Physical Education or within the role of P.E. Coordinator take part in Active Fusion training. It has improved my subject knowledge, given me the opportunity to work with like-minded people, grow in confidence both in my teaching and discussing Physical Education with others and has been a highly enjoyable experience. I can’t thank Sophie and Active Fusion enough for providing me with this opportunity.”
