Why you should take part in the Higher Sports Leadership Award

Active Fusion take young people through the Level 3 Award in Higher Sports Leadership.

It’s an ideal course for young people looking to take their first steps into a career in coaching and school staff other than teachers who want to be more confident teaching physical activity to children.

Tea Riley is an Active Fusion volunteer who has completed the qualification and this is what she had to say about it:

“I decided to take part in the course because I am always interested in learning new techniques to help children learn. I built up loads of new skills by taking part in the course, especially confidence. At the beginning I was reluctant to shout and take charge of situations, but after the course I am completely confident to take charge.

“I enjoyed the course so much. It has taught me how to adapt my coaching skills in different situations and it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come and how much I’ve grown as a coach. The opportunities the course has given me have been amazing. I’ve worked with likeminded people and we’ve all learnt together and critiqued each other in order to improve. I’ve even planned and delivered my own event, which I loved.

“In the future I would like to continue coaching and learn as many different styles of coaching as possible so that I can help everyone be the best they can be.

“I would definitely recommend this course. It’s not just a qualification – you learn so many new things and have so many new experiences that you would never expect. It’s also amazing to look back and see how much you have grown as a coach.”
